FAQs

Is the pie dish oven safe?

Our ceramics are perfect for even baking. They can handle extreme temperatures, but like glass, do not respond well to sudden temperature changes. Always introduce to hot or cool temperatures gradually (avoid putting a dish that was in the refrigerater straight in to the oven or rinsing a hot dish in cold water). Cold or room temperature food in the dish is fine as long as the dish is at least room temperature when placed in the oven.

How long will it take to get my pottery if I order online?

Good things take time. We are a small shop that makes each and every item entirely by hand. If we don't have your items in stock, we make your pottery to order, and the entire process takes 3 to 6 weeks, or sometimes longer. We will ALWAYS contact you if your order isn't ready to ship immediately. PLEASE let us know as soon as possible if you need your pottery by a certain time. Also, feel free to contact us in advance if you have any questions before you order, at han.pottery@gmail.com.

How does the Honor System work at your studio?

Hanselmann Pottery’s physical location at 4908 Corrales Road has operated on the Honor System since 1970, and we’re proud to continue the tradition. If you come in to make a purchase and no one is around, just follow the instructions on the self-checkout form. All major credit cards, checks, and exact change are accepted, and there is a calculator on the table to help you. But if you need a hand and see us working in the back, be sure to give us a holler!

How much variation can I expect between pieces?

Each piece is made by hand and therefore unique.  There may be slight variations in size (less than a quarter of an inch) and glaze color, but, in terms of hand-thrown pottery, our results are consistent. Variations in speckling, (which is caused by naturally occurring minerals in the clay itself) are to be expected.

Can I put my pottery in the microwave?

Yes! All our pottery is dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe.  Our stoneware is durable and will hold up to normal use, however we don't recommend extreme temperature changes, such as putting your piece directly into the oven from the freezer.

Do your glazes contain lead?

No, we only use lead-free and food-safe glazes.  We also favor glossier glazes that are more sanitary and easy to clean.

How do I return a product?

All sales are final, but if something breaks during shipment please let us know!  We are more than happy to work with you on a replacement or refund.

Do you offer gift cards?

Yes! Order here: Gift Card

Can I pick up my website order in person?

Yes, we love when you do this! Just select "Local Pickup" at checkout to waive shipping fees, and we will shoot you an email when your order is complete!

How durable is the pottery?

We have designed our pottery for every day and consistent use. We use a stoneware clay body that is strong, dense and durable. The pieces are thicker and heavier than china and porcelain pottery, so it can be stacked, washed and used for many years.
